Re: [FWDLK] Oil Pump Priming Tool

Big and Small block oil pumps (426 hemi and polys included) use a 3/8" hex
shaft for priming. I thought the early Hemis were the same but can't be
certain. You must remove the intermediate shaft, which has the slot to drive
the distributor because this shaft also has the gear on it. You can't prime
the oil pump through the intermediate shaft because the cam gear will hold
it or force it up and out of contact with the oil pump. As far as I know,
the only engine you can prime with a slotted style drive is a GM, and even
then you have to use a special drive that sits in the distributor hole to
keep the shaft aligned while you prime.

small block (as far as dimensions go). Sounds like you got the wrong one. If
you have trouble with Jegs, you can get one from Hot Heads for $12. That is
where I bought mine. The pump should rotate clockwise from the top.
