Re: [FWDLK] Paint it Black/Love is Gray

I thought the use of the universal gray stopped after 55.

Right or wrong??

That would communicate my intentions, anyway.

My awareness of the Dupont SP145 came about due to my request for
information related to the inner fenders and underside of the DeSoto.
Martin Lumm indicated that he had color matched SP-145 to the inner
fenders
of a very original '55 DeSoto that he had. Detroit build DeSotos had gray
inner fenders in the engine compartment, and it was suggested that the
underside of the floorboard would have been coated in that same material.
I
also found remnants of it on the inside of the quarter panels on the '56
I'm
restoring, BUT, the DeSoto we have is LA built , and it becomes somewhat
of
a moot point for me, because the LA DeSotos had semi-gloss black inner
fenders. To be purely correct, I should probably put the gray back on the
inside of the quarters, but I'm not sure I'm going to spend the money on
one
more type of material for something that's going to be covered up by panel
board and never seen.

The trunk underside of our LA DeSoto was body color. As was the underside
of the hood. As it turns out, so far I don't have anyplace to put the
gray
either, just like Neil. But at least I know what I would get, in the
event
that I needed it!

Yeahbutt (& I have NO vested-interest in this discussion, as Horace's
(Detroit) under-trunk is "Flame-Red"), as Tim Bowers pointed-out, IF
anyone is interested in (re-)painting their L.A. built car's under-trunk
area, then Dupont's
"Fleet Color SP-145" may be :"an appropriate"
(right, Tim?) color-formulation.
