Re: [FWDLK] auction fever

Nothing wrong with auction. This is what I often see happen- esp. with new
bidder who is thrilled to see something he has always wished existed and
just now finds.

Had ebay training course for local AACA chapter on Sat and was interesting
to see wrong concepts people have about what happens there. Thought it was
a silly idea when asked to do it but it ended up being an interesting day of
questions and answers and I learned a few new things also. Still ended up
with no bidders on some parts manuals I had up recently though. Had give
away prices on them but still no bidders. Some things sell high and some
don't.

Had an old hills brothers coffee can up some years ago just to get rid of
it. Starting bid probably 2.50 and got one bid early so it was selling at
least and we were happy. Well when it closed on Sunday eve got one more bid
and it went to 102.50. We were really happy esp. when we wrote the second
bidder and let him know we had two and he could have the second. He jumped
on it and said he had left 100 bid since he couldn't be on during end of
sale. The high bidder was celebrating his birthday that day and needed just
this tin to finish a collection and wife said to make sure he got it when he
bid--- and he did.

Happy sellers and buyers- what more could you want!

Shill bidding is when friend of seller puts in fictious bids to raise the price. Often can be the buyer and end up costing the seller his closing fees. It happens sometimes but don't think it is real common.

Just for the record, eBay will not accept a bid from the same computer
that created the listing. To the best of my knowledge, even if he signs on
using a different screen name.

You have to look at the bid times. the bids are listed in amount order,
not time.
On the 20th Old Guy(277) bid $25. This was the FIRST bid, about noon
New guy(0) bid 4 times to beat it, Just kept adding and rebidding, 'til he
was high bidder. This was near Midnight.
On the 21st Old guy bid $100
New Guy bid 8 times to get on top. the next to last bid got him there with
$102.50, and then he bid again with a higher unknown, "Insurance" bid.
He's caught up with "Bidder Fever", bound to win this one at any cost.

I love this kind of bidder!

I've bought a lot and sold a lot on eBay since about 97. Have only got
stuck once for $5.

Regards, Ray

Duh, I don't get it. It looks like this guy is bidding against himself.
Guess I need an eBay lesson.

A classic example of shill bidding. Take a look at the bid history.
