Something like just ONE light unit would be abundantly bright and cool for the brake indicator light.

It's what i've did on my '57 Imperial !!! Because the bulb went out and i spent a lot of time to remove (from the rear of the dash) this *§!=*/# bulb !!
I put a high intensity led (not high current: around 50 mA if i remember) with a resistor and voilà...
I replace at the same time the "high beam" bulb with another (yellow) led and add a "generator" led (red) in the same housing . So when i turn the key the red led goes in and i know if the ignition is on or when i stall !!
