I am not positive, but I think when the slant six came on the scene, it
was a chance for the new aluminum torqueflite to be designed and used.
 
The existing engine and trans drivetrains were unchanged.
 
That's another way of saying I believe you are correct.

in 1962 the aluminum torqueflite was released behind the polys and b/rb......  but wasnt the aluminum tf behind the slant 6's in 61???  i had a 61 pioneer with a 318- still had the iron tf, but my friends /6 seneca had an alum 727 if i remember right
