Re: [FWDLK] '57 Dodge (Super) D-500 on eBay

Hi, all; I PM'ed Jim, with a list of comments, but @ the risk of
offending the seller, with objective observations:

The color combo is non-standard, and
may be a color-change --funny thing: the gold interior tends to be less
popular, which implies that the gold may have been original, but that
interior was the most commonly used, and the car could have been
all-black, e,g. .

The car is apparently a late-model, as it features the 1958 dashboard
w/forward-located r.view mirrore, 1-piece speaker/vent grille, & 58
handbrake lever, and 'late-model' speedo housing, so, the car may have
been built in 8/57 (which implies that its body [note the good trunk &
hood fitments] was well-constructed.

While the VIN reveals very little information (interesting that the
seller provides NO vin, which implies that he may believe that its
'numbers', a-la the 60's Mopes, may reveal some dark secrets, about the
car) the VIN will confirm approximately-when a car is built., AND which
model-series the car was (Roy's & CRLS shared the same 'prefix' :
"37"--Coros were "35".

Door alignment is iffy, tho.

It's got an incorrect carpet & footpad (implies quick resto/little
research/poor pre-resto condition of car)

Nice interior: SMS probably

Heavy/obvious clear coat.

wrong (rt-side) knight's head installed on fin.

Lotsa 'minor' issues under hood, incl carb linkage/return springs(?)

No undercarriage shots.

No spare tire(?) in a fully "carpeted" (note the 'carpeted fuel-filler
tube', and no "front" carboard panel, but side panels very-well
installed.

In addition to the Paint/Trim data plate, I'd like to see
pre-restoration pics of the car.

Probably is a real D500 single 4-barrel, but no close-up shot of
condition of emblem (which tells a LOT about the condition of the car,
if original, or re-chromed (or, even if its 'NORS/NOS').---the pitting
on an emblem is a reliable tell-tale.

Finally, we are all "fortunate" that correct Power Brake pedals are NOT
being re-popped, as far as I know.

The brake pedal condition/wear is the BEST tell-tale Re: overall
usage/mileage of a "restored" car.--this car's pedal looks to be
consistent w/a 90K mileage car (as the seller indicates.

So fwiw, these are my observations, & w/o benefit of ANY information on
its mechanical condition (kinda like buying a car, @ an auction)
[LOL]---the car LOOKS like it's worth $25K.
