Re: [FWDLK] Transmission Cable Questions

Hi:

On my '56 Dodge, I had a leak near the bottom of the shift cable.  I tried  using heat shrink tubing along with MOPAR rubber in a tube.  That combination lasted for a few years until it started to leak again.  This time, at the suggestion of Mike Laiserin, I placed an 18" long piece of gas hose over the cable and clamped it over the metal sleeve at the bottom.  I have not  had a leak since and it has been on there for several years.  If you do this I would suggest lubricating the outside of the cable with silicone so the hose slips on easily.  Do not get anything on the metal sleeve as you want the sleeve and the inside of the hose to make a good dry contact.
