If you have a big drain pan, remove the Pitman arm, then replace just the nut.  If the car is on a lift, lower it closer to the floor, with a carefully placed drain pan directly underneath the box.  Start the car and move the wheel. It usually doesn't take much, maybe one or two turns lock to lock.  The pressure will blow out the old seal, and spray some oil, but your drain pan will catch most all of it, and there's no danger of accidentally nicking the bore with the drill or screws, or chisels, or punches.  Just a little messy, but very quick and reliable.  The nut will catch the seal and perhaps the spacer washer(s), and give a new start.
