Re: [FWDLK] Hi, rear end!

Actually they did, early 340 powered A-bodies were routinely equipped with 8 3/4 rear axles. They were narrower than the ones used in the bigger cars and the wheels had the smaller A-body lug nut circle( later disc-braked A-bodies w/v-8s had the larger B-body lug bolt pattern). Several of my friends had 340/four-speed Dusters and they all had 8 3/4 axles. I junked out a wrecked Swinger 340 (340/three speed) back in 1980, we used the rear axle in my friend's Maverick bracket race car(460 engine/C-6 trans). I loaned him the center section out of my '71 B-body, it was definitely an 8 3/4 piece. The main thing to watch for in swapping 8 3/4 center sections around is the axles, there may some subtle differences in length involved when going from an open rear end to a sure grip style and vice versa.

Hi Neil,
Hate to burst your bubble but the A-body series never came with a 8 3/4 rear when they had a small block.
