[FWDLK] Fwd: [Fwd: Re: Power steering pump leakage.]

Here's a message that I sent to Hank Dozier, who is a moderator, on the
FWDLK website; Hank had replied to a thread on the O/H of a power
steering pump.

So, as Hank's gonna be out of town, I thought I'd run my
question/situation by y'all;
my car's power steering pump has a leaking front seal, & I'm wondering
about the availability of a rebuilt pump-body, -vs- buying a rebiuild
kit, & paying for its re-sealing work.

My pump has the 3" diameter cannister-lid; not the 1" wide, 3" long
snorkle-filler tube.

Thanks in advance.

Neil Vedder

Neil???....

I will have to dust off those brain cells.  How bad is it leaking, and can it wait about 2 weeks?

I am leaving tomorrow evening for Michigan, and will not be back until after the 1st of October.  Then I need to get my head on straight and find all my old materials, as I have forgotten even what I wrote about!!!!  CRS to the max!

Is your attached to the back of the generator, or is it a divorced on a bracket style as was found on 1957 and up?  A lot of those were Thomson units.....

Hank, while researching threads about fixing/replacing   a leaking P/S
pump (that's the cast iron guy
installed below the steel resevoir, & pulley ;    my 57's got the 3"
lid/cap; not the 1" snorkle-
filler tube) , I came across your offer to help a guy with a similar
proble,.

My shop says that my car's pump's "front seal" is leaking.

Can you provide me with any rebuild-kit numbers, and/or with
replacement-unit identifiers, so
that I could either get my pump rebuilt, or replaced????

I'll be happy to post any parts-"numbers" , that you can give to me,
onto  the "Steering" Board, so
that someone else could just go-find the info,  that I'm looking for.

So, is my pump a Saginaw, and what am I looking for (which is
easier/cheaper to do):
pay someione $80.00/hr to remove, overhaul & re-install my rebuilt pump,
or, just go
buy a new-rebuilt unit, & install the subject-one's pulley onto the new
one, & just install
a new pump??????
