Re: [FWDLK] Black 58 Fury???

I owned a brown with sand dune white roof '57 several years ago, don't know exactly when it was painted,I know it was wrecked in '75 and I bought it in the early '90s with no nose and a bent frame. Bought it with air cleaners, carbs and all for $650. Those were the days! Also bought a '57 Fury parts car for $100 and a white and gold Belvedere 4 door hardtop with 52,000 miles for $450 as a nose and frame donor. Sold the whole package for $3,000 and thought I did good.

Wow; I hear you Adam, about post-production
repainting of Furys.

I just wonder why we haven't seen more custom painted Mary Kaye (or, is
that "Danny"?) Furies, out there, except for several black ones?

I would find it hard to believe, from what i gather these cars were hard for dealers to get at all, much less special order colors. I have a '57 Fury sales brochure with the salesmans notes on it with the cost of all of the options including a continental kit and painting the car. I assume alot of people didn't want the white or beige and dealers repainted them. The guy who built my Fury owned 7 black '58 Furys before it,all painted by his buddy who painted my car. A black one from the factory,I doubt it, now a purple one I'd believe.

I guess I would only accept the factory build card as proof of a special order color. I am skeptical until such time as we have the vin and can look it up.. Might the dealer paperwork only prove that the dealer painted the car for the customer.  Of course a close inspection might also provide the proof.
