Been years since i've actually changed one, but I believe it's on the driver's side of the tranny, around the shift cable area? It's silver with a black/brown center that sticks out with one wire attached.
 
When these go bad, you can start in any gear.

I own a '59 Belvedere 3 speed torqflite 318 CID.
 
Can anyone out there tell me, was there a safety switch on the trany preventing the engine from starting while in gear??  If so, where is it located ? Mine now starts in any gear. Dangerous!!!!!
