Re: [FWDLK] WANTED SOURCE OF WATER PUMP FOR 1957 DODGE 325 HEMI

What I replaced on my engine was a NEW or NORS water pump. The construction was significantly inferior to the MoPar part. However, I don't know if it was NAPA or Monkey Wards or some other source as it was on the car when I bought it. Likewise I don't know how long it functioned before leaking and howling. I knew from looking at it that I didn't want to rebuild that unit.

There are some definite advantages to a new part, "if," as Tom McCahill used to say, "it's properly engineered."

Allow me to qualify my remarks.
NAPA offered NEW water pumps, not NOS. These were brand new castings with new bearings, shafts and seals. I agree that some NOS parts may deteriorate over time.

Some years ago, NAPA offered NOS cheaper than re-builts. Don't know if they are still doing it, but after several Mopar re-built pumps failed on my Li'l Red Express, I put one of NAPA's and it's still on there.
