Re: [FWDLK] Very quiet out there!

I doubt the merger will happen. The only reason for GM to buy Chrysler would be to kill whatever competition Chrysler gave to GM and I don't think GM has the money to spend. If the merger were to happen GM would own the cars and trucks and Cerberus would get GMAC. GM would have no use for the trucks except Jeep, which I think they would keep and kill off Hummer. The PT cruizer is the same as the HHR so I imagine the PT would die. The Viper surely would die. GM finally has there own rear drive sedans and coupes so they would have no use for the Charger or the 300 (I believe the Magnum is already gone). That leaves the Sebring and Dodge version of that car (Stratus?) and GM already has several cars in that class. And the Caliber and the Jeep versions of that vehicle, GM already has cars in that class as well. GM would like the minivans since they don't have any.
The problems with the US automakers are their own doing. I don't want to see the workers lose their jobs but I would like to see upper management in a soup line. If our tax dollars have to bail out these companies the executives should be forced out and replaced with people that actually love cars and the freedom they bring. Why is it that so many of us could see this coming they couldn't, Do they think Honda, Subaru and Toyota are stupid? The Japanese and Koreans concentrated on building high quality, efficient cars and trucks while GM kills the EV1 and puts the money into Hummer. Even if GM never made money on the EV1 by now they would be and they would be in front of unstable oil prices.
Chrysler should go back to one or two platforms with different body styles adapted to it, like Dodge in '58 when your choices were A truck and A car that came as a coupe, 2dr sedan, 4dr sedan, convertible and a wagon. Nothing more was needed.
I'll stop ranting, sorry

Happily and gratifyingly shocked in this household.  But there hasn?t been much activity.

One question:  what are the thoughts out there about the possible merger of Chrysler and GM?  What would the new company be called?  Which car brands would be the first to disappear from the new corporate line-up?  I?m thinking Pontiac would be the first to go as GM?s weakest sales division, followed by the Dodge Truck line from Chrysler.  Any other theories?

Hey, where is everyone?  The list has been super quiet the past week.  What's happening?  Everyone still in shock over the election or am I not on the receiving end of list mail anymore?
