Re: [FWDLK] Imperial Valve Covers Question

My experience with a '57 Imperial is consistent with Wayne's explanation.  I took a 392 hemi engine out of a 1957 Imperial.  The Imperial was in a junk yard in Pflugerville, Texas.  It was around 1980.  The '57 392 from this Imperial has the Firepower script.  I still have that engine.

PS:  Unrelated to the '57 Imperial 392 engine - I have a set of those dimpled valve covers, too.  They were chrome when I bought them.  I had them rechromed around 1981.  They are really precious!  Paid maybe $40 and another $50 for rechroming.
Another accessory for my 392 is a factory twin-fours setup.  I bought it off a guy who had it in his barn half buried in mud.  I paid him $40.  It had everything except the air filters (naturally) and the rod to connect the rear carb to the throttle linkage.

Not to doubt Wayne's expertise, but the 56 Imperial that I removed the 354 from in 1963 was in an insurance yard with a wrecked front end and severe right frame damage and had been there at least 2 years. It was very low mileage, in the twenties IFRC and had no evidence of any work on the engine. I had it in my possession for over a year and it most certainly had the valve covers stamped "IMPERIAL" as I was somewhat disappointed that they weren't the "FIREPOWER" covers as I intended to put the engine in my 58 Fury. Much cooler to a 16 year old kid. Dick

There was only one year that Chrysler Imperials left the factory with "I M P E R I A L" stamped into their valve covers and that was 1958.   1951 through 1957 Imperials all employed the "Chrysler Firepower" script valve covers, the same as standard Chrysler.

Of course the '58 Imperial valve covers will bolt onto any '51-58 331-354-392 engine so long as it does not have adjustable lifters requiring the dimples for adjuster clearance.

Subject: Imperial Valve Covers Question

What year Imperial would have Imperial and not Firepower  stamped onto
the valve covers?

Thanks for your help.
