Re: [FWDLK] Anybody parting out a 55 or a 56 Windsor, or a 56 Dodge w/the 270 Poly engine?

I've got the Ross Roy data book that came out in the fall of 1955, it says the Plaza and Savoy V-8's with two barrel would have the 270 cid engine. My ol' maid aunt bought her first new car at 45 years old, delivered spring, 1956, a '56 Savoy sport coupe without sportone; it had the 270 cid engine. All '55 Plymouth V-8's were Dodge engines, smaller displacement of 241 cid or 260 cid.

But never say never, perhaps there was a running change some time during the year when the new Plymouth engine plant got up to speed. I've got a spare engine from Nathan Nuttall, it's a 277 2v, I think he took it out of a Savoy.

From personal experience, the 277 is a whole lot better engine than the
241-260-270 Dodge/Plymouth poly engine.

Roger,

The '56 Ply Savoy 2bbl. motors also came with the "new" 277 Plymouth Poly -
I am certain w/o any doubt.

I am the second owner of my '56 Ply 277; bought it off Mr. Benson through
his mechanic down the street back in the summer of 1969 for $250 with 66,700
original miles on it. I put about 100,000+ miles on it and it is now under
re-construction.

If anyone has the master cylinder firewall plate, please e-mail me as I
mis-placed/buried mine somewhere in my 70 banana boxes of parts and it would
be easier to buy it from someone than dig...

Thank you,
Gary Pavlovich

'56 Plymouth Savoy 2 barrel V-8's supposedly only came with the 270 cid
poly carryover from '55 Dodge. The Savoys and Plazas with 4 barrel and
station wagons came with the 277, which was the new style poly that later
was bored out to 301 and 318. The Belvedere V-8's came with only the 277.

So are we all on the same page? The 270's can be identified by the
scallops on the bottom of the valve covers, and by the raised intake and
separate valley pan.

Neil,

The '56 distributor is from the 277 Poly 2bbl. engine. I am not 100%
certain of the crossover as the 270 Poly is a Dodge engine; I would
suggest
querying the FLL.

Gary, that 56 Savoy 301 V/8 dissie should work, huh?

Does/did it come off of a 4-bbl engine?

Neil,

I have a single point distributor from my '56 Ply Savoy w/277 V-8 that
is
in good running condition (no cap) and comes with a NOS breaker plate
assembly mechanism (entire top plate/points/condensor/wiring...) if
you

Looking for a rebuildable distributor from one of them.
