Re: [FWDLK] 1956 Plymouth generator bracket needed

As June Allison says, DependsTM.

There were two different blocks offered on the 1956 Belvedere/Savoy/Plaza.  At least at first, the Savoys/Plazas with two barrels came with a 270 ci poly engine same as the 1955 Dodges and almost the same as the 1955 Plymouth V8 [241,260]which was actually a Dodge engine.  The 1956 V8's coming from the factory with four barrels, all Belvedere and wagon V8's were the 277, a totally new engine which was later enlarged to the 318 "wide block."  [I know, they're not really wider.]  I've seen later 1956 Plymouth Savoys/Plazas with the 277 2 barrel, as recently as last week in a wrecking yard.

If you want to know other subtle differences between early and late models I'd be glad to bore you.

So, to answer your question without looking at the parts book, if you have a '56 Plymouth 270 the '55 Dodge and Plymouth blocks are the same.  The 277 is different.

I don't have a '56 but I do have a 1955 V8 generator bracket.  It is for the smaller engine, though.  I don't know if it is the same.  I think that they were the same blocks, so maybe it is the same.

I need a generator bracket off of a '56 Plymouth V8 that bolts on the top of the intake manifold in the left front of the engine, I think it was used on cars with power steering. I know '56 Furys with 303s had them and I assume the 277 used the same bracket. Maybe the Canadian Chrysler with the 303 did too. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
