Re: [FWDLK] [Chrysler300] re passenger side rear view mirror on epay

As I mentioned, earlier, in the OEM location, if an owner
turns the Passenger's side mirror head as far in, and down, as
possible, he will find that a car, following in the 'slow(er)' lane, in
the subject car's (otherwise-) blind spot, will have a portion
of its grille/front-end be viewed in that mirror.

What's nice about that (very-) limited view is that a car, coming up
in the blind side, will show-up suddenly in the mirror and its appearance
there will get your attention.

Also, a large convex mirror can be 'weatherstripping glued'
to the Passenger's side mirror face if you want a large view of
that side of the car.

On the Driver's side, in the 80's, I 'weatherstripping glued'
a large convex mirror onto the OEM mirror and find that
that convex mirror provides a mind-bogglingly-most-perfect
view of the roadway to the rear of that side of the car.

Any doubters: go buy a large convex mirror and try taping it
to that Driver's side mirror.

If you decide to install the passenger side mirror, find yourself a second body - wife, kid, vagrant, 3rd world dictator
passing by - and based on the correct front-to-back install location, have this person swivel the screw point a bit toward
the driver's side until you achieve a happy level of rear view pleasure, have them mark that point through the screw hole
with a Sharpie pen, and drill accordingly. While the mirror proves to be a lot small for such a distance, you can minimize
the aim problem by doing this simple adjustment from "stock".

You can also shim the mirror to tilt it up or down a little, if that helps. I like to cut my own rubber gaskets anyway, and these
can be shimmed a little without being too eye catching.

The 56 "shorter" mirrors are worse for aim and backward visibility than the twin strut dudes introduced on the DeSotos and
Chryslers in 57, but they would look a whole bunch wrong on a 56 car.

Of course, you could always lop the lid off that old see-dan of yours and make you a parade car ! You wouldn't be the first. :-P

I have a single post mirror on the Left side of my 56 Firedome& an unmounted mate in a box. I have flirted with mounting the mirror on the right side but it appears that it would be obscured by the right side of the Dash/Windshield trim from the Driver's Seat.
As a longtime advocate of "Check your mirror before you change lanes" I miss having the Pass side rear view. My sedan doesn't have a blind spot in that corner but my neck doesn't care for the twisting around.
I could believe the miniscule improvement numbers for the 2nd antenna but I question the same for the Pass Side Rear View, even if there's no Blind Spot.
No Top Down driving in my Sedan, unless it's the Passenger :-{o)

I was able to see some shopping carts and a bus bench with that mirror once.

Mopar research showed the second mirror and second antenna provided a near identical improvement in efficiency of 1.0468% and 1.0752% respectively.

Doctor DeSoto concludes this was more an operation of form over function.

One more reason to drive with the top down ... no blind spots. :-P

Well, yes-and-no, as to the efficiency of the 57-58 passenger- side
rear view mirror.

If you position the mirror face as far inward and downward as
possible, that mirror's image will show a portion of another car's
grille area, which happens to be in the adjacent lane in your blind
side (while you have your head facing forward).

More than once another car's presence, there, was announced by its
(grille-area) suddenly appearing in that mirror.

Fern -

I you're talking about the dual strut mirror, I wouldn't blame Van's.
I've had the same problem with the factory dual strut mirror. I used
an NOS one on the passenger side of my 58 Plymouth and set the
mounting holes using the factory template. Even with the mirror
turned all the way to the left, it doesn't do the job.

Has anyone here had any experience with using the passenger side
rear view mirrors that vansautollc has for sale on epay? I had
purchased one a few years ago on ebay (can't remember the seller)
but the adjustment is so far off that one can't see properly the rear of the car.
Or better yet, doesn't anyone on this reflector have either an
nos one or a real nice one for sale? Shipping would be to zip 83826 in Idaho.
