[Chrysler300] Tires

For those of you who do not know this, ALL Goodyear Blue Streak tires were a bias/belted tire. 1/2 bias, 1/2 belted. They were the forerunner of the radial tire. This engineering came from Michelin and AVON tire manufacturers. Extensive testing by Goodyear produced these tires for the heavier, faster cars of which Chrysler desired. There was nothing on the American market at the time. Firestone did make a "Firestone "500" nylon tire for high performance cars (of which I used on my '57 300C for many years) in an effort to take some business from Goodyear.
In all my years of driving my 300s, have never had a problem with rims, using bias or radial. Common sence tells one to check the rims for rust. Many of these cars have sat on the ground for years. This results in external rusting, compromising the structural strength, especially at the bead area.
One other plus for the Chrysler rims was that they had "Safe T Rims." The raised internal portion of the rim where the bead of the tire went, locked the bead of the tire to the rim to prevent the tire from coming off the rim due to a blowout or major loss of air. This has happened to me a few times, flat tire, at reasonably high speed, but the tire never came off the rim and was able to come to a safe stop without veering off the road or damage to the car body.
No other car/rim manufacturer had this feature back then in the 40s-60s.
Some of these aftermarket wide white radial tires really concern me after hearing about the failures on the road. Someone is going to have a serious accident. These tires are not cheap (over priced), and I have absolutely no inclination to buy them. I will check my old factory rims from time to time and keep enjoying driving my Brutes on them, at any speed.
