Fw: [Chrysler300] 300G speedometer problem

I honestly don't know what the problem is, but once I had an issue that was just the opposite.  Speedo worked fine from 0-55, but if you were going down the highway at 55 or greater, randomly the needly would swing all the way clockwise and sit there limply until you slowed down to 50.  Then it would pick up again and be fine until it decided to act up again.  I couldn't find a new or good speedo reasonably priced so I tracked down a speedo/gauge repair shop, believe it was Bob's in Michigan.  Phoned them and they seemed to believe it was an issue with centrifugal weights in the head (it's been years so I may be a bit off on some of the details).  Sent it off to them and sure enough, they were right, some issue with the weights not moving at a certain range and I never had an issue for another 100,000 miles.  So, maybe a similar issue?

Hey gang,
Coming back from the Maine meet I noticed my speedo had stopped working, without making any noise when it quit. Today I did the usual troubleshooting: disconnected the cable, drove the car, the cable turned. Reached up and spun the back of the head, and the needle moved. Pulled the cable out of the housing, wiped it off, relubed it. Put a couple drops of sewing machine oil on the head while I was in there. Reconnected cable and drove the car. Had to go through a few stops signs before I could get up to speed. Speedo was reading 5 mph, though I figured I was probably going up to more like 15 mph. By the time I got past the 4 blocks or so to where I could hit 35 mph, the speedo stopped registering at all. Thoughts?

Thanks,
Andy Mikonis
