[Chrysler300] hood undersides-----undercoating-

I found another 55 Chrysler with a primered hood underside----I know on some of the cars I have owned or worked on ---at some point in the past the hood may have been painted body color along with a body repaint and on some cars the paint---either primer or body color was gone---just surface rust left---but I have a 55 Imperial hood that was never repainted that has the body color on parts of underside and as I said before I have owned---worked on several 55's---originals---that were painted body color----including 2 C300's---The Kansas car I restored last year had nothing but surface rust-----Mike Burke has a C300 with a primered underside---I have never owned or worked on a 55 Chrysler with a blacked out hood underside but a friend of mine just bought a 55 Imperial Newport that has always been in the same family---it had a blacked out underside and when he removed it it was primered-----also I have a Ca. 56 Windsor here that has the inner fenders-core support painted black---hinges are silver with red springs just like a 55---this car is all original----the only 55-56 Chryslers I have seen without undercoating were Ca. built cars----the undercoating was standard equipment----it says as much in all of the dealership ad books including the one on the 56 B----this 56 Windsor 4 door hardtop has a primered underside of trunk including torsion bars and hinges also but not the standard primer used on some 55 hood undersides but the stuff used on Dodge-Plymouth from at least 49 to 54---and on at least some 55-56's----this car was bought from the original owner around 15 years ago----it has some patchwork on body where it had some dents but still has most of it's original paint-----it also has full undercoating-----so I believe that dealers most likely blacked out hood undersides on 55 Chryslers--------Johnnie Slayton
