Hi Keith...my 65 "L" and 64 Newport both do the same. The Newport has a new tank and the "L" tank is original. I have learned to listen to the flow of the gas and shut off the pump when I hear the gas reach the top of the tank. This has been happening for 20 years now. 300 regards...George Ver Berkmoes
