The engine must suck, squeeze, bang, and blow (in that order).  If it were to try and blow, bang, suck, and squeeze, it would not run.

The only thing that cares about rotation is the camshaft, starter and dist. The dist probably could just be rewired.

If you were gonna re-purpose the engine, you would replace those parts, at least and then it would run in the correct rotation.

I haven't built an engine in 17 years, so I might have missed something...

Is it true that some of these Marine engines rotate in the opposite direction when used in a 'twin screw' application? Might need to check that operation before putting it in a car!
