But axle did not shear off, right? That is a typical wheel bearing failure…if you keep going, which is easy to do, races spin tearing all up. . Other nuances abound about center shims, thrust block, side play on Timkens.---- long thread a few years back on that. Assembled wrong by others on newly acquired 300F. . Bit me. But again, axle was still OK. Fixed idiocy, was ok after. After 2500 in travel and tow / ship Chicago to Boston. =OK -2500. And two days.

I had rear wheel bearing go bad and it tore up the area around the axel tube and the axel too. Had to replace the entire diff, as it was too damaged to support the new bearing. It's a 66 300.

Exactly why I wanted to find out what happened, in a forensic sense ..I agree 100% with you Don..never ever heard of that , that area very beefy. At first thought maybe drum backed itself off. But apparently had to replace the axle; need to know if in fact it “snapped” and where.

I’ve never heard of an axle snapping on any Chrysler with the tapered axle setup, especially just cruising down the highway. I’ll bet there is more to this than is being reported.

“Snapped” axle? Why? Anyone know? Where snapped? Looks like at wheel bearing? Might be important info..obviously is….

Looks like Club Members Noel Hastalis and Don Verity came through again, and did it in a very quick and efficient manner when timing was of the essence. Congratulations to Don and Noel, two true 300 nuts.

Another example of the helpfulness of the members of dear old Club.
