Re: {Chrysler 300} RE: 64 300 map light switch

Thanks Ray, I’ll check that out. I’ve tried a number of different brands and colours in the RV, many of which show as ‘warm’ on the charts, but all of them give the unit a really cold glow.

Ryan, there is a link to RV bulbs and it shows a remote which usually means it can change colors.
There is also a color chart and the ranges of the different light colors.
Check here:

Have you found LEDs that don’t have that awful cold blue look? It’s hard to beat the warm light of the old bulbs. I converted most of my RV back to standard bulbs because I couldn’t find a bulb that gave the warm glow I like.

Better yet, find a LED bulb to replace the original one.
I've replaced most all interior bulbs in my vans and Trucks
and they made a real difference in interior brightness.
Check ebay with make and model and there are kits and/or collections of bulbs .
Cheap and well worth it.

Rich- Polycarbonate (Lexan) should handle the temperature of the bulb. Readily available in clear sheets with UV stabilizer in various thicknesses, if you want to make a replacement.

Dave:

Thanks for the feedback.  Its always good to read about a problem solved and the actual nature of the problem.  I noted on my map switch that it did not work very well—probably due to a long period of non-use.  I gave it a shot of contact cleaner and operated the switch a number of times to loosen it up.  I notice the clear map light lens has been roasted a little by the bulb and don’t see anyone reproducing them.  Given a modern lens material, it would appear easy to reproduce as just a clear rectangle without the serrations for diffusion.  Anyone have a recommendation for a modern plastic that can take the heat?

Rich and Group,

The map light is fixed.  After tracing wires, all good  , and comparing 2 light units   , the conclusion is this.

The fiber board on actual switch was loose!

The fix was re crimping the switch base to upper area around board.

Once re crimped, the board is tight to the internal ground.

On to next issue.

Thanks All,  Dave in hot spot VA
