Here are the instructions for Auto Pilot from the owners manual. The service manual has an extensive section on Auto Pilot including testing.

I've never actually driven a car with it so I'm not familiar with any issues. I've many later Mopars with the simpler system and it worked great. I used to add it to my cars and also had it in my motorhomes and old pickup.
