Re: {Chrysler 300} crunching numbers

Years before these photos were shot Wayne Graefen and I were at Steve Hoker's house as I had been in contact with him expressing my interest in the car.  When we arrived Steve acted like he didn't know me and said the car was some distance away.  We made small talk and then he said you guys seem okay some come with me.

At that point we went behind his home and to the back fence.  There covered up was this B with a Packard Caribbean.  Both were sunk in the mud about one foot and Wayne said to me if they try to pull them out the frame will break and he was right.

I got the hood up on the car and something moved on the passenger side by the heater.  It was a Possum that had taken up residence there.  The interior was pretty much gutted and there were some parts in the trunk.  I couldn't believe how bad this was against photos in earlier club newsletters.

We advised Steve of the local meet and he did show up at least one night.  Our observations were he was loud and kind of a biker type.  Never saw or heard from him after that except to learn that he had passed.  I think I originally told Mark O. about the car but by then it was moved to a different location some miles away.  Don't know what the fate of the Caribbean was but I'm sure it wasn't good.  Somewhere I have photos of the B when it was at Hoker's house.

How about the tragic state of this stick shift B?

Mark shot these photos a few years ago - Steve Hoker’s - had it rusting away in the wonderful Illinois climate! I was at a car show with my F this past Sunday - got into a conversation with a fellow I hadn’t previously met. He knew Hoker and had seen the B. Said the delta wing air cleaner had collapsed down onto the rusted-away valve covers.

I had met Hoker a couple times - 10-15 years ago - an unusual looking fellow who told me he had a B. I suggested he bring it to shows so we could see it, but he said it wasn’t driveable. I didn’t expect this sad an ending.
