Re: {Chrysler 300} Fw: 1957 Chrysler Ghia Super Dart 400

It was Kanter's car that was at Carlisle in 2015. I remember taking to him, and he said he drove it there. A few pictures I found.

About this car and the Kanters….

A quick story….15 years ago - or so - the AACA Museum was holding a special exhibit on the “rise and fall of the tail fin”.

It was a fabulous exhibit and - at the time - they asked for my 57 Imperial. I was driving my Imperial to the museum when one of the Kanters flew past me in this very car…..it was like a yellow blur. I new it was a Ghia created dream car and I couldn’t believe it was on regular highway with all of the other commuters….I nearly clipped off a utility pole, I was in shock.

When I arrived at the museum it was pulled under the portico with the (then) curator- Jeff Bliemeister- looking at it. I remember him calling over to me a”Hank! Look what the Kanter brothers have loaned us for the exhibit.” Can you believe they drove it here?”

I can remember that to this day. What an incredible car, and moment in time. I wouldn’t believe it if I hadn’t been there myself.

If this is indeed the Fred Kanter car, I've seen it multiple times at a 50's car show in Parsippany NJ called Lead East.  The Kanter's would bring it to the show at least one of the 5 days of the show.  I don't think I've seen it there for a couple/three years, but before then it was pretty much an annual event.  The brothers are getting up in age, so maybe they felt it was time to move it along after having enjoyed it for a number of years?

It is set to cross the blocks in Scottsdale, Arizona, on January 27th, with an auction estimate of $750,000 – $950,000.
Just as the fins dominate the back, the front features an enormous oval grille and sweeping front fender lines.

It is a modified Dual-Quad 392ci FirePower Hemi that sends 400hp to the rear wheels via a three-speed TorqueFlite transmission. Naturally, power assistance for the steering and brakes are included in the package.

Acres of deceased cattle grace the upholstered surfaces in a combination of Black and White, from the seats to the door trims, console, gauge fascia, dash pad, and steering wheel center.
Luxury touches include air conditioning with pop-up vents in the rear parcel tray, power windows, and a remote driver’s mirror. There is one further luxury touch, but it is worthy of its own paragraph.

The unit was a turntable that played bespoke records, with the sound pumping through the car’s radio amplifier and speakers. Records spun at 16⅔ rpm, with each capable of storing about forty-five minutes of music per side.
