Re: {Chrysler 300} 1962 Radio > Bluetooth Addition

I had the Aurora Digital System installed in a ‘68 thumbwheel radio. On the Aurora website there is a list of authorized installers and personal I found one in the Chicagoland area that turned out to be a great discovery. Not only was that Radio Technician local but I drove the hour and a half to drop it off and pick it up. We sat bs’ing over car stuff too. Yes that took time but I met a great guy who I would never had know about and he helped me greatly on a number of other radios I have in storage. For what it’s worth his name was Ralph the Radio Guy. Obviously mailing the radio is an option.

I’ve used instrument specialties in RI several times. Not cheap but done right. They took 2 cores from me (seven and fine button) and made one with aux cable and fm. Getting Wednesday.
Here is my Fury resto.

hi may be far cheaper and easier to add a ?3.5 mm stereo jack , but yes a cord to iphone , I pad . I have done this , 5- 6 times use two 10 k resistors to mix the two channels , i added a Spst tiny micro switch to tuning so you tune to 55 and it cuts out radio audio connects the two resistors to volume control input .
These radios usually need new electrolytic capacitors , leave old one in plsce  but strategically cut foil to it . then add modern panasonic axial capacitors, same uF 16 or 25 v anywhere in radio . Trying to exchange or remove old one destroys  the pc card ,,they are very fragile
Also a long light spring from L shaped thing in tuning gang to case side adds force so tuning clutch won’t slip .strength is critical , too strong makes buttons hard to push .
Last the tube pins get corrosion in sockets , causes intermittents. scrape each pin with razor knife then coat very lightly with silicone grease . ends that issue .
above assumes radio is basically ok , tubes are almost never bad , sometimes output transistor , ( article on our tech site) geranium replacements  available now again, e bay  .
occasionally IF transformer goes bad , trying to change them destroys pc card . The radios are getting really old now , pc traces lift off card —-fine wire inside IF trans corrodes. Don’t “ align” or turn anything , they are stuck , especially IF trans you break it  —- and seldom if ever  needs  that anyway  … and then nothing to listen to on AM — so :

After all this , i sort of stopped doing this , i used chrome nose of an old radio , then used retro sound kit sold for VW , made a black delrin filler , same size as old tuning dial , put 300 knobs on ( they fit!) gets you the jack am/ fm too . . looks better than factory , digital clock too . Can modify jack to be on delrin .
lot less hassle works great few hundred $ and a day , put two killer 6x9 speakers  in back .Dual voice coil etc are junk in front , waste of time and money

Maybe bluetooth stuff now in new retro radios radios too , it has been years since all this
just info , one guys track on this ..

Howdy All,

(JC Auto is not presently doing this, or I wouldn’t be asking)

Has anyone had luck in sending their radio to a vendor to have it:
A) Restored to work internally as stock….and….
B) Had a Bluetooth option added to stream music from phone?

Thanks!
