Schuyler - How about 10 degrees btdc @ idle.  The issue is at what rpm  does 
the total advance come in.  2500 - 3000 seems ok for a street driven  car.  
Total advance should be around 32 degrees.  Gary P. should have  his tried and 
true numbers on this.  A timing tape around the damper is a  great help on 
this, but can be a bear to put on while the damper is  mounted.  Joe
