Alex,
I've converted many Mopars to 4-speed and vice-versa. Brewer's has
been around and are reputable supplier, i've used them many times. In
fact I think Wayne's prices are lower than many newcomers to the
game. Not sure what kind of power you are running but if all you are
needing is an 18-spline box, the price should be manageable. Wayne is
also a big fan of / very familiar with the early cars.
As for the job itself - if you are adventurous enough to have the car
on a rotisserie, you are easily capable of the conversion. Repop
metal shifter doghouses for the 62-5 cars have been available for a
few years now and is the only cutting and welding you'll need to to.
Otherwise it's just swapping parts and with a factory manual (or even
without) it is very straightforward.
The only sticking point will be if the crankshaft is drilled to accept
a pilot bushing or not - if you are lucky, it will be. If not, there
are a few options but none of them are without their rubs.... I've
heard of folks hand-drilling the crank but alignment is critical for
the bushing or it will make "squawking" noises and put undue stress on
the transmission. The only sure way to get it right is to yank the
crank and bring to the machine shop. Not expensive but awfully time
consuming...
