Re: OK, am I missing something

Sometimes these things have a sort of combination on 'em try this:
1. Pull the the switch knob fully out and let go of it
2. Depress release button fully and hold it fully down
3.Pull slightly outward again on switch knob
4. While holding slight outward tension on the switch release a small bit of pressure on the button 5. If you feel a tiny slip outward of the shaft immeadiately fully depress the button again and pull the shaft free 6. Slight outward pressure must be maintained during this so as to remove it the instant it's freed but not so much as to prevent the catch from being able to release. A bad example of what's happening is the old penny lock of a door trick. one guy pushes a stack of coins between a flexed door and it's frame causing the latch to be held in a bind. The locking pin which catches a groove in the shaft is wedged against the edge of the groove unless allowed to move away slightly for an instant. This is why outward pressure must be slight...ready to pull when released - but not enough to wedge it from being able to release. keep tinkering with button depression, holding it constant fully down rarely works. Some
times manipulating both together will find the sweet spot...

Have you tried cutting your finger while working on the dash, thus offering some blood letting to the Mopar repair goddess? ;--)

Seriously, I've never taken a headlight switch apart to see, but pushing the button raises or pulls back some sort of catch/latch. Isn't the button spring loaded? If the catch/latch/spring is broken inside then the latch won't release, like you describe.

If you end up dissecting the switch take some pictures of it disassembled to show how the latch works inside.

First, though, push harder on the button. Worth a try.

I cannot get the knob to come out of my 64 cudas headlight switch.
Yep, I know about the button, and have tried every possible
combination , of button pushing, tugging, yanking , turning etc.etc,
and the sucker will not come out. tempted to lop it off and just go
find another switch and knob.
 am I missing something?
PS, yes I have soaked it in penetrating fluid too
