Re: 1964 330

The reason I speculate that more 462W car were sold in 1965 than in 1964 is simply that you had a choice of MW engine in 1964 whereas you did not in 1965. Also, not many guys could get one of the limited production Hemi cars in '65 but everyone had access to the MW in 1964.  A low compression 11.5 motor wasn't that bad to run on the street then with Sunoco 260 being relatively inexpensive as compared to race gas today.  So in '65, your highest powered engine available to the common man was the 426W.

Not that I consider which year had more 426W cars sold a topic to argue about too much.
My current '65 Belvedere I will be a 426W clone car in the future once I get over this 500HP need for speed I now have.  All the parts are in the garage.

Your numbers sound reasonable to me, Don.  I would think there are more 426 SW than MW cars from '64.  Greg Lane gives info about this on his Max Wedge/Hemi site where he states that in '64 Dodge and Plymouth offered the 365hp single 4bbl 426.  Those blocks were the same casting as the MW blocks without the valve reliefs cut into the top of the cylinders - the only difference in the blocks themselves.  The block casting numbers are all the same.  More than likely, when one of these '64 V code blocks is found, it's a street wedge block.  The V is stamped on the engine pad.  I have one of these myself.

I think our cars are a different animal for GG since it's virtually impossible to prove if it's a "numbers matching car" - since the vin isn't stamped on the drivetrain like in the later '60s cars.  The most that can be hoped for is date code correct (other than air tight documentation of some kind).  So maybe this creates more mystery than he's willing to deal with?

Nasty mode on.  Maybe he thought we mere mortals would not be able to handle the fact that all the 426 engines in 1964 weren't all Max Wedge engines.
I was very surprised by his sloppy oversight or lack of information on the 1964 426W cars. While I suspect there would be a lesser number of 426W in 1964, I would think it would have been in the 100s, maybe close to 1,000 if they sold 1,500 in 1965.

Don,

Yes, I agree that GG is incorrect to not have '64 426 SW cars listed.  Fellow list member Don Owen has a '64 Belvedere, 426 SW (4-speed), so that's at least one '64 426 SW.  I know there are others  - likely some on the '62-'65 website.  Perhaps GG only lists cars known to him?

The picture came through.  Nice looking car.

On the 1 of 8, I ran a tabulation on the '65 Bel 2 Convertibles, 426W, 4 Speed.
Using Galen Govier's book, of 1,472 426W equipped 1965 Plymouth B-Body cars,
there were only a total of 78 426W Plymouth B-Body
Convertibles. Seven Belvedere II and 44 Satellite convertibles were 4 speeds -
there are no Belvedere I convertibles. Given there was no Max Wedges in 65 and
there was in 64, the 1 of 8 looks like a good number for the 330 base model.

A strange thing to note is the Galen's little book list no 426W Mopar cars in
1964. Pretty sure that's incorrect. However, he did list 426MW cars.

Does anybody know of another compiled source of these stats?  I'd like to know
how many '65 Satellite 383-4bbl auto Convertibles were made. Our's also has AC,
PS and PB.
