Safety is safety, but as you mention people start adding to the load on the charging system, and find that the orig. alternator will not keep up, so that is the next upgrade (larger alternator to power the equipment) so even if new items has its own new wiring, it has to get the power from the battery and reverts back to the cars original charging system wiring,,,,,,,,,, just keep this in mind when installing your fuseable link
And as always your car is your car, do with it what is right for you and enjoy it, but please follow a few guide lines,,,, here is a short list of my personal ones,,, no traction bars on a mopar, no black engine bays (except black cars), no dingle berries hanging in windows (unless small enough not to be noticed),,,,, HEI is for chevies,,,,,,20 inch rims belong on semi's (have seen some that looked good though)

Well you do have a point with no gauge bouncing back and forth you may not know if the battery is charging or not.  But a little led light can be added very easily if you got that worried about it.  I'd rather not know if the alt is charging my battery than a fire under the dash for parts that I can't replace in a car I searched for 19 years to get..  I'm sure my Alt will last me a good 10 years before I have to deal with that.  Wait till you see the 2 subs and 2 amps that are going in my beast.  I've already wired them off the grid of the rest of the car.  One good thump from them would end the wiring with or without the fuseable link.  Not to mention the new back up mirror, monitor, cam, parking senors, inferred LEDs for help with parking.  The dual heated seats. The new rear Defroster.  All my new toys are going on a different fuse box that is going under the hood, like the newer cars.  So the cars org system will run the org stuff, all the adds will run on there own stuff.  I hate melting wires.  Seen it too much if Fords and Metros.

And how did you know that most of the time my car sit there with it's battry unpluged and parked?  Well not for too much longer.

Yep,,,,,, this would be an upgrade, but before doing it take all things into consideration ,,,,, one of them being do not install an alternator that produces more than the original charge rate, as that will also leave you possibly stranded on the side of the road with a dead battery after the link burns up, and your not going to know it until it happens because you have eliminated your gauge as well, maybe the safest thing would be not to install a  battery in the first place and just leave the car parked
