Re: Engine Assembly Questions

Us Hoosier boys must be odd folks
We always use a drill and priming shaft to prime entire oiling system right before we fire the engine for the first time. Guarantee no dryness anywere!  I usually crank engine slowly as im running the priming setuo that way oil is pushed absolutly every were. Drop the distributer back in. Light it up! Keep it at or above 2000 rpm.  Watch the guages.  Everything ok.  Keep it for 15-20 min. Or till golden brow ....o wait thats.... any way thats how we go about it.  Always a rush to bring em to life.

Re: Engine Assembly Questions

Well as Dodger said it's used to pack the oil pump to prevent it from not drawing oil on start-up. It isn't used other than that. I do that and it's simple, effective and apparently harmless. Also I've never had a car with chapped lips :-)

Do I remember hearing old-timers using Vaseline for engine assembly?
Seems like it could be a bit too thick though.
