i may be a little late to the party here but this is my $0.02...You
are not going to see any performance increase unless you advanced the
engine's timing to make use of the increased octane. Just swapping
premium in for regular won't do anything.

The only advantage without a timing adjustment is that most (if not
all) premium does not contain ethanol.

Hey all. A short while back there was a discussion about higher octane gas
and how it's suppose to make your car perform better. Well I'm here today
to say that is utter B.S. I put 3/4 of a tank of premium in my 65 Polara.
The tank was pretty much bone dry, so it was like 98% premium fuel in the
tank. Premium gas in Canada is 91 octane regular is 87. I've got a mildly
built 440 in the car with a 25 gallon tank (95 litres).

I figured, as per the discussion here, the higher octane would make my car
perform at least a little better. I'm saying NO WAY!! Took it out for a
good drive today and there was absolutely no difference in performance
whatsoever. Needless to say I was a little miffed.

So I guess in a long winded way I'm asking everybody on this list if they
got the same outcome when trying premium gas vs. regular gas? After this
little experiment I will NEVER buy premium again. Especially at 15 cents
per litre more. That's 57 cents per gallon more.

Thanks for letting me vent.
