RE: Auction: 1965 Fury II -- 1963 Polara 500

No I’m pretty sure it started in 68 with the original Road Runner. However it change from Red to Orange around 69 or 70 but I’m not sure which year.

I'm not sure but didn't the RR pie plate start with the 70 model year?.

The Super Bee had the 335 horse 383 as well as the Road Runner and it was only available in those two cars.  Now, Dodge Plymouth & Chrysler used different terminology for the same product.  Hence, Six Pack -V- 6Barrel,  Commando -V- Magnum -V- TNT

After looking at Herb’s pie plates I should have said the difference between the Plymouth’s 383 Commando or Super Commando and the Road Runner Engine. I believe the 383 Four Barrel along with the Magnum  was a Dodge thing. Here’s a link to an eBay auction for the RR pie plate. It actually says “383 road (bird emblem) runner engine.

Mo, I have to disagree with you. It was a long time ago but if I remember right on my new 69 Road Runner Convertible that I ordered the pie plate on the air cleaner said “383 road runner” You’re right about the 440 heads and that’s one of the things that made the difference between the “road runner” 383 engine and the regular 383 4 bbl. On a sad note in 1971 I traded that RR convert in on a 6 cyl. Gremlin because gas was up to 38 cents a gallon. (SOB)

Herb, I have to disagree. On my new 68 Road runner I ordered, the 383 was called a "Magnum" because  they were said by the factory to have 440 heads and HP exhaust manifolds. A little hype because I think the heads were the same anyway. I do believe the air-cleaner pie tin said "383 Magnum"......................................MO

RR's....383 Magnums.....NOT!  Plymouths had Commando motors, Dodges had Magnum motors and Chryslers had TNT motors.  Just my 2¢
