Re: slant six trannies

The 1965 Torqueflite was the last year to use cables, but had either a lever on the steering column or a floor mounted lever, instead of pushbuttons.

Also, 1965 was a transition year from ball and trunion to the cross and roller u-joint.

The A and B bodies used the ball and trunnion (or ball and pin) at the transmission end with a cross and roller at the axle end with the slant six and 273 V8.  The 318 used the ball and trunnion on B and C bodies with the B engine using ball and trunnion when mated to a manual transmission.

The 1965 parts book has a list of mid-year changes for the A-727 transmission changing from ball and trunnion to cross and roller.

I used to have a 1965 Valiant Signet with a slant six and A-904 floor shift transmission - and it had ball and trunnion.  That large plate that the ball and trunnion body was bolted to and the rubber cover were dead giveaways. Also the lack of a slip joint.

For the cross and roller style, the u joint behind the transmission was attached to a slip joint that slid in and out of the transmission.  Also the joint had no protective cover and you could see the joint's cross.

Is that not the definition of the  "Ball and Trunion" joint?
