Re: slant six trannies

If the manual conversion option is considered viable (compared to a tranny rebuild), I would suggest that an A230 would be the way to go.

Hunt one of these up out of a later A-body or F-body complete with floor change.

Surely it would not be too hard to find the pedals and clutch linkage somewhere from an early model? And, of course, it's been mentioned about the difference in crank spigot for the flywheel, so an early flywheel would be required. Remember, too, that vans and pickups can have these parts for you.

727s to bolt up to slants in pickups, they are easily found, but will require a change of driveshaft.

If you do have a ball & trunnion driveshaft, and you want to go 4-speed, I have found the early A-body A833s with B&T fittings are not wanted anywhere, you can buy them easily. But it would require mods to the tunnel for the shifter etc, though again it's easy to find bellhousings out of pickups (later ones, fitted with the A833 overdrive box) to suit this purpose.
