Extreme Veteran Posts: 335 Location: California/Wisconsin | This past week we brought home our blue Chrysler convertible with restoration now completed. There is a past thread on this car showing it's before pictures and discussion. This was an Oakland California car sold originally at J E French Motors. A collector rescued it from A-1 Auto Wreckers in San Jose in 1979 for $150. A man in Livermore then bought it and it sat with four 300 F convertibles he collected, along with many 1958 Oldsmobile convertibles (his wife says that was their first car). All went up for sale in about 2010. I am posting pictures of picking it up, on the rotisserie, and now restored. All was gone through. I added air, flightsweep deck lid, 7 button radio with power antenna, and power swivel seats. It had the power door lock option. Many vendors contributed and special hats off to Gary Goers, Dennis Crooks, and Doug Pollack. I kept the original paint color, Capri Blue, blue interior, and black top. http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=33879&... 61 new yorker convertible 6,700&highlightmode=1#M254475 (Phoenix Pictures 2011 034 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN2191 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN2194 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3121 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3123 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3085 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3084 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3086 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3087 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3088 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3090 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3092 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3093 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3095 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3096 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3097 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3098 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3099 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3100 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3101 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3102 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3103 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3106 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3107 (Medium) (2).JPG) (DSCN3110 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3111 (Medium).JPG) (DSCN3114 (Medium).JPG) Attachments ---------------- Phoenix Pictures 2011 034 (Medium).JPG (170KB - 327 downloads) DSCN2191 (Medium).JPG (131KB - 320 downloads) DSCN2194 (Medium).JPG (126KB - 303 downloads) DSCN3121 (Medium).JPG (184KB - 303 downloads) DSCN3123 (Medium).JPG (141KB - 309 downloads) DSCN3085 (Medium).JPG (220KB - 322 downloads) DSCN3084 (Medium).JPG (192KB - 311 downloads) DSCN3086 (Medium).JPG (198KB - 322 downloads) DSCN3087 (Medium).JPG (214KB - 315 downloads) DSCN3088 (Medium).JPG (199KB - 323 downloads) DSCN3090 (Medium).JPG (172KB - 345 downloads) DSCN3092 (Medium).JPG (122KB - 310 downloads) DSCN3093 (Medium).JPG (164KB - 326 downloads) DSCN3095 (Medium).JPG (203KB - 328 downloads) DSCN3096 (Medium).JPG (146KB - 320 downloads) DSCN3097 (Medium).JPG (199KB - 311 downloads) DSCN3098 (Medium).JPG (181KB - 314 downloads) DSCN3099 (Medium).JPG (202KB - 335 downloads) DSCN3100 (Medium).JPG (149KB - 314 downloads) DSCN3101 (Medium).JPG (187KB - 313 downloads) DSCN3102 (Medium).JPG (169KB - 322 downloads) DSCN3103 (Medium).JPG (188KB - 308 downloads) DSCN3106 (Medium).JPG (167KB - 320 downloads) DSCN3107 (Medium) (2).JPG (196KB - 318 downloads) DSCN3110 (Medium).JPG (207KB - 324 downloads) DSCN3111 (Medium).JPG (208KB - 336 downloads) DSCN3114 (Medium).JPG (167KB - 337 downloads)

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8444 Location: Perth Australia | I am with the others, great work Just as a side note though, the a/c pipes going to and from the condenser appear to be unsupported, engine movement will crack the one from the compressor I might be wrong, but if not, I would braze a small bracket onto the pipe just after the junction of the rubber hose and use that fender bolt, or maybe even a P clamp Please dont think I am trying to pick holes, because I am not

I am also an Imperial fan, but I have no doubt in my mind your 61 Convertible is the pinnacle of FL cars for '61, and full credit to you, and the people who helped you make it what it is today . An exceptional car. Well done. Steve. Edited by 60 Imp 2015-09-01 8:59 AM

Should point to the right front slightly, & there should be a couple of tabs on the back that line up with a casting on the back of the carburetor.

Expert Posts: 1223 Location: Ramona, CA | My '64 Polara 500 convertible came out of a wrecking yard in the 1980s. It was on top of a '57 Chevy wagon. Somewhere I have pictures of it. But unlike your car, mine looks just like it did when I got it. Still has the junkyard markings spray painted on the quarter panels. I paid $350 plus I traded in a crashed '69 Barracuda that I drove in although the transmission had no reverse. But replaced a rotted fuel hose in the Polara and drove it out of there. A friend later got a running '69 Super Bee 4-speed out of the same yard for $650. The good ole days!

Member Posts: 24 Location: Greenwell Springs, Louisiana | your 61 new Yorker is really a beauty. Like those tires, just wondering what kind and what size you put on her? I think the 61's had 15 inch wheels, looking for a nice set of 14 inchers with 21/4 whitewalls for my Chrysler F.

| ||
Extreme Veteran Posts: 335 Location: California/Wisconsin | The wheel size remained 14 inches for all 1961 Chryslers, except the 300 G where it did increase to 15 inches. Tires are BF Goodrich 900 bias ply from Coker. A fellow in Livermore CA bought the car from a pediatrician who rescued it for $150 from the salvage yard. I bought the car from the wife of the man in Livermore on seeing it advertised in Hemmings as a 1960. He also had 4 300 F convertibles that were sold overseas and three 1958 Oldsmobile convertibles.
