Expert 5K+ Posts: 9916 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . In my so far never-ending quest for a 56 Dodge Car Production Broadcast sheet and/or 56 Dodge dealer order code sheet, I keep bumping into posts with 57 Dodge Car Production Broadcast sheets, sometimes with directly associated cowl data tags that can be used to interpret missing broadcast sheets. I don't think I have seen a broadcast sheet, cowl data tag and an IBM card for the same car. That would be a gold mine of information. I have decided to consolidate some of the information that I have bumped into for future searches of 57 Dodge information. In the past LD3_Greg (Greg L) and D500Neil (Neil V -RIP) put together and posted this info: and Subsequently, folks bought 57 Dodges and were encouraged to look for their car's broadcast sheets. In two cases that I found, they were lucky enough to find the sheets and kind enough to post them to the forum. Like this somewhat flawed but readable (mostly) one from John D (ictfatboy): And sideshow_bod's (Robert S) post with broadcast sheet and cowl data tag: and From sideshow_bob's cowl data tag I can see 293, 421, 469, 485 and 491. Based on guidance from LD3_Greg that indicated that we need not try to convert a cowl tag number like 293 directly to 293 on the broadcast sheet. Instead, Greg suggested that it was the single digit that is important, i.e. 293 on the tag = 3 = 323 on the broadcast sheet = Transmission option 3, which in 1957 was Torqueflite Similarly 421 = 1 = Either (and I expect to be correct by those more knowledgeable than I) 401 on the sheet = under coating or 331 on the sheet = Accessory Group 1 469 on the tag = 9 = 339 on the sheet = Power Brakes 485 on the tag = 5 = 675 on the sheet = delivery route (5 is probably trucked to the dealer in question) 491 on the tag = 1 = Either (and I expect to be correct by those more knowledgeable than I) 401 on the sheet = under coating or 331 on the sheet = Accessory Group 1 I have NO IDEA why 338 on the sheet didn't translate to some 8 on the cowl tag. Same for 362 (=2) and 363 (=3) on the sheet are not to be found on the cowl tag. In poking around my archived images, I found a high res image (like 1 Mb) of ictfatboy's broadcast sheet that I apparently DID NOT use when I tried to fix the lower res image of his broadcast sheet that he originally posted. Expert 5K+ Posts: 9916 Location: Lower Mainland BC | 56D500boy - 2023-04-02 3:14 PM. I don't think I have seen a broadcast sheet, cowl data tag and an IBM card for the same car. That would be a gold mine of information. Turns out that I lied. I do have more info from John D. (ictfatboy) that I had squirelled away, including his 57 Dodge's IBM card and cowl data tag. (see below) I have tried to interpret/consolidate the info in one table. I am quite confident about the broadcast sheet and IBM card interpretations but translating that info to the cowl data tag - not so much. 13 numbers on the broadcast sheet and IBM card only generates 5 numbers on the cowl data tag. Houston, we have a problem. Expert Posts: 1914 | . Correction: I never seen a stamped “6” in column “59” – Safety Accessory Group 336 on the cowl tags – so that’s my guessing; If the groups 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 are existing (stamped), so why did not stamp group 6? There is no Coronet Texan Group 338; the order code 388 is meaning a Power Steering actually…

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9916 Location: Lower Mainland BC | frwl - 2023-04-05 10:03 AM Axle = C = Column 66 = 663 = 3.36 to 1 Rear Axle Ratio Route 5 = Column 67 = 675 = Delivered by Truck 511, 512 = 11 = Tires – 8.50 x 14 – White Side Wall (but not sure) Minor clarification: Column 66 on the 57 Dodge IBM cards is for the rear axle ratio. In contrast to the 1956 Dodge IBM cards that used two columns, 31 and 32, to punch two numbers to designate the rear axle ratio, e.g. 3 and 5 = 3.54 rear axle, the 57 Dodge IBM cards used two punches in Column 66 to designate a letter, using the universally accepted translation from punch codes to letters and numbers. In that way, Column 66 with a punch in what I have been calling the "-2" position (which might actually be called the "R" position) and a punch in the "3" position (in the same column, 66) equals the letter "C", which apparently means a ratio of 3.36. Similarly, a -2 (or R) and a 2 = B which frwl has previously suggested meant a 3.18 ratio. It would be nice to know what the other letters (A = -2, 1 and D= -2, 4) mean ratio-wise (Igor??) An example 56 Dodge IBM card (look at columns 31 and 32 and then up at the top row for 3,5) The universal IBM card punch hole translator: Edited by 56D500boy 2023-04-05 3:41 PM (IBMPunchCodeCharacterSetKey.jpg) Attachments ---------------- IBMPunchCodeCharacterSetKey.jpg (125KB - 80 downloads)

In case the customer or dealer changed their minds, or corrected an error in the codes, they could write or stamp it in those boxes. Can't disagree. That is what I thought when I went through Tim Dupont's 56 Dodge D500-1's IBM card in 2021. His card had a "REMOVE" 344 and "ADD" 345 stamped on his card (See below). I think I've seen another card where add and remove codes were written in pencil. (??) Where: " 344 = 34 = Power Equipment, 4 = Power four-way seat. Other 34 codes included 341 = Power Steering, 345 = Power Brakes, 346 = Power Seat and Power Brakes, 347 = Power Seat, Power Steering and Power Brakes, 348 = Power Steering and Brakes and 349 = Power Steering and Power Seat. Your (Tim's) car’s IBM card punches only shows the Power Seat." REFERENCE: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=23917&... Edited by 56D500boy 2023-04-05 6:16 PM

We're straying off the 57 Dodge topic but to add to the ADD and REMOVE comments, I previously communicated to Tim Dupont this: "Your car’s IBM card punches only shows the Power Seat. However, as you previously discussed with Neil Vedder, there is a 345 “Add Code” stamp and a 344 “Remove Code” stamp. Previously, you thought that 345 Added and 344 Deleted was a running switch to Manual steering (may have initially tried to get power steering and this is not available with the Dual Four Barrel Carburetor Group). Bottomline: Based on this photo, there is no PS pump on the back of the generator or PB vacuum can or “accordion bellow” booster. Not sure if you got the power seat in the end or not (I would guess not). " I never had/found a photo of Tim's front seat to check for the presence (or absense) of the power seat controls.
