Expert Posts: 3575 Location: Netherlands | Does anyone perhaps know which kit will fit on a '60 Chrysler NY? This model is not listed on the Grant website itself. I've got a "4310" kit, but the splined hole is too small for the steeringshaft. Edited by BigBlockMopar 2008-04-10 6:34 PM

Expert Posts: 3575 Location: Netherlands | I was hoping that someone might've found that, say an adapter for a different car is possibly the same as for this year Chrysler. My old steeringwheel has lost it's upper and lower resin-part, so I've bought an aftermarket steeringwheel. I don't want to hack up my old wheel just yet. Finding a junkwheel might be the best way of solving the issue I guess. Thanks.

Expert Posts: 3575 Location: Netherlands | Thanks, but I knew this topic. I have also posted a photo of my worn steeringwheel in there some time ago. At this very moment I still want to try to get the aftermarket wheel to fit on the car, but if that turns out to be difficult without a suitable adapter, I'll try to fix up my old wheel. The splined steering-shaft in the '60 is about 22mm (.85") in diameter. I'm trying to locate a list where the Grant adapters are shown with shaft measurements and such.

Expert Posts: 3778 Location: NorCal | I know that a lot of hard core "originalists" turn up their nose at the smaller wheels but it's one of the best mods I ever did for comfort, the smaller wheel works good with Mopar's sensitive power steering and the fat padded rim just feels better to me than the spaghetti thin stock rim. Expert Posts: 3575 Location: Netherlands | I just got a friendly email back from Grant, explaining why there isn't an adapter (anymore). Supposedly the tooling of the adapter broke about 20 years ago and there hasn't really been any (financial) reasons to remake it. I have a 15" MoonEyes steeringwheel I had planned on installing, but without the adapter or an unrestorable steeringwheel to use as a basis I'll probably have to temporary 'fix' the original steeringwheel. Expert Posts: 1812 Location: Slidell La. | A junk wheel IS the way to go , I ran into the same problem and had to do the same . An easy temp fix for your original , on the ring itself , go find you some large hose , vacume or heater, slit the hose , install it on the wheel and then get one of those old school wheel wraps and cover the hose up . Mine was like that when I first bought the car . Didn t realize it at first , but it was a decent temp fix for a bad wheel .

Expert Posts: 3575 Location: Netherlands | Yeah that's the plan I guess. But I think a (5/8") heaterhose is slightly too large to fit fairly tight, but I think I have the right size hose to slide over the inner ring.
