Hello Everybody
I'm new in your forum. I'm live in Bulgaria and I have Dodge 1959. I look for parts for this car, But for the first I don't know the exact model of the car. I'm sure that it is Canadian production. Plymouth dashboard, but the modell may be Regent or Viscount or Mayfair, how to recognize this car.
The VIN is full of rust, but I read these symbols: M166 100632
http://classiccars.zonebg.com/Gifs/AmCars/dodge_59a.jpg
too much parts missing so it's difficult to me to determine model, I'd be happy if somebody help me with information

Bogdan -

Your 59 Dodge is a Viscount. It was one model below the Custom Royal and had a Plymouth dash and body panels.

Welcome to FL.net Bogdan..

The 1959 Dodge Export models were Regent or Viscount or Mayfair as you listed , But also I think there was also a Kingsway.. I blieve the Side Trim was Different to each model Possible , Not sure if some had the Plymouth Dash and others the Dodge Dash,, The Canadian guys will know best probably.. The export Dodges were NOT Regent, Mayfair or Viscount. Those nameplates were used ONLY in Canada. All export Plymouth-based Dodges from 1946 to 1959, whether built in Canada or Detroit, were sold as Kingsway models.

The instrument panel in LHD cars was from the Plymouth, while RHD 1957-59 Mopars used a panel similar to Dodge.

And this particular car is not Canadian.

M166 100632 :
M - Model year - 1959
1 - Make, engine - Plymouth 6 / Dodge Kingsway 6 (US) / DeSoto Diplomat 6
6 - Series - Fury / Kingsway Custom / Diplomat Custom
6 - Assembly Plant - Lynch Road, Detroit

100632 - the 632nd model M16 off the 6 assembly line.

In North America the "6" series was a V8-only series but Chrysler did built 6-cylinder sedans for export. Being a Detroit-built car, the engine is a 230-cid 23" block engine. If had been built in Windsor it would have a 251-cid 25" block engine.

In Canada this car would have been a Viscount, using make digit "7" for a six or "8" for a V8, same digits as used on the Canadian-built export Kingsway models. The assembly plant code was "9".

Car Line code for the Canadian/export Dodge was "E" in 1959-60 while the DeSoto Diplomat was "F".

The American plant built every body model and body style for export (depending upon country). The base Saboy was labelled as a Kingsway, the Belvedere was Kingsway Deluxe, the Fury was Kingsway Custom and the Sport Fury was labelled Kingsway Lancer. The 1956-58 Fury models were not exported under either Kingsway or Diplomat name.

In 1959, the Canadian plant built only the following models for export -

Plymouth 6 - Belvedere 4-door sedan
Dodge 6 - Kingsway 4-door sedan, Kingsway Deluxe 4-door sedan, Kingsway Custom 4-door sedan
Dodge V8 - Kingsway Custom 4-door sedan and 4-door hardtop
DeSoto 6 - Diplomat 4-door sedan, Diplomat Deluxe 4-door sedan and 4-door Suburban, Kingsway Diplomat 4-door sedan
DeSoto V8 - Diplomat Custom 4-door sedan and 4-door hardtop

Is there a body tag somewhere on the firewall of the car? It would have some build details as well as model, paint, trim and possibly options. Of course, if this car was shipped CKD the tag will be nothing like the tag as used in the U.S.

Your car is a six cylinder Kingsway Custom sedan, basically a Fury/Viscount. In North America the Fury and Viscount models were V8 only, but Chrysler did built 6-cylinder Fury, Kingsway Custom and Diplomat Custom sedans for export.

American-built export models all used Plymouth's "1" or "2" for the Car Line / Engine in the 1959 VIN. The first "6" is for Fury / Kingsway Custom / Diplomat Custom and the second "6" is for the assembly plant, Lynch Road, Detroit. Being an American car, the engine is a 230-cid engine and, yes, the base transmission was the 3-speed manual. The 2-speed Powerflite was the only automatic available on a six before 1960.

If there is a body tag on the firewall, the model code should be ME1-H 41. A DeSoto 6 Diplomat Custom would be
MF1-H, while the V8 version would be "-2" instead of "-1".

Well you're right
It is export model, not american model. The model is produced for Export. the right moulding show that it is Kingsway. the export models is 6 cylynder 3 speed manual, so it easy for me now, that I have Dodge Kingsway 1959 for export or Dodge Viscount 1959 for America

Hi!

I own a 1959 Dodge Mayfair 4dr sedan. There are many differences between the Mayfair and Regent, but the most easily recognizable outside difference is the shorter lower moulding on the Regent and the absence of chrome rain gutter moulding along the roof on the Regent.

Here's a couple of pics of my Dodge Mayfair:

so it means that Regent is the cheapest model, the next place is for Mayfair and the luxury Canadian model is Viscount. Do you know how many KIngsway produced in 1959

The base Dodge Regent. Also known in export markets as "Kingsway". The 4-door model has the optional sport tone side trim. The 2-door has the standard side trim.

Yes, in Canada, the 1959 line-up went like this, from base model to top:

Regent, Mayfair, Viscount, Custom Royal

I have the Canadian brochure, the accessories catalog and the owner's manual for the 1959 Dodge, but it's now in the glove box of the Mayfair in winter storage.. I'll post scans when I can.

Here's a picture of a 4dr Regent I spotted in a backyard on the Gaspe Coast, in far eastern Quebec, two days ago. I'll get better pictures of it when I'm back in that area in the spring. It's a sad rusty hulk... Too bad, really, as it was still running a plated about 6-7 years ago.

Compare the picture of this Regent with the one of our Mayfair, and you'll easily spot the difference in side trim.

Well, they are pretty rare, but I guess they are quite common compared to the situation in Bulgaria!

Of course, these cars were prone to rust and our climate being so harsh (especially in Eastern Canada), not that many examples survived.

But that said, only here in Quebec, I know of more than a dozen 1959 Canadian Dodges (not counting Custom Royals). That includes about 4 or 5 of them in a junk yard I know (including two Regents and two Mayfairs). The Viscount are the rarest.

Parts can be found in many junk yards around here.

To help you with your search for parts -

1) Your car is an American-built Dodge Kingsway Custom 4-door sedan, with a 230-cid flathead six. The 230-cid six was built in the U.S. and is the same for all 1957-59 American-built six-cylinder Plymouth, Dodge and DeSoto models. Same for the transmission.

2) The interior on your car is bascially that of a 1959 Plymouth Fury - which was used on the export Dodge Kingsway Custom, DeSoto Diplomat Custom and Canadian Dodge Viscount. Only the parts with a "Dodge" name differ from the Plymouth and DeSoto models. Also cars with RHD drive use a different instrument panel.

3) The front clip (fenders, hood, bumper and grille) is the same as used on all export Dodge Kingsway models, Canadian Dodge Regent/Mayfair/Viscount models and American Dodge Coronet and Royal. All but the parking light housing parts will interchange with the Custom Royal. The CR has a different housing with an addtional collar with "gear teeth". (See Side Trim below)

3) The body, rear fenders, tailights, etc. are the same as all 1959 Plymouth sedans, 1959 Dodge Kingsway sedans, all 1959 Diplomat sedans and Canadian 1959 Dodge Regent/Mayfair/Viscount models. Only the nameplate on trunk lid differs make to make. The "Dodge" nameplate is unique to all non-wagon 1959 Dodge Kingsway models and Canadian 1959 Dodge Crusader/Regent/Mayfair/Viscount models and is not used on the larger Coronet, Royal & Custom Royal models.

4) The windshield, door glass, rear window will interchange with all 1957-59 Plymouth sedans, 1957-59 Dodge Kingsway sedans, all 1957-59 Diplomat sedans and Canadian 1957-59 Dodge Crusader/Regent/Mayfair/Viscount models. I know that holds true for the front doors as well.

5) Side trim - The trim used on the doors and rear fenders is shared with all 1959 Plymouth 4-door sedans & hardtops, 1959 Dodge Kingsway 4-door sedans & hardtops, all 1959 Diplomat 4-door sedans & hardtops and Canadian 1959 Dodge Regent/Mayfair/Viscount 4-door sedans & hardtops. Front fender side trim, though, is not shared with Plymouth due to the Plymouth's lower wheel opening, but it is shared with all 1959 Dodge Kingsway 4-door models, all 1959 Diplomat models and Canadian 1959 Dodge Regent/Mayfair/Viscount models.

6) The "Kingsway" nameplate was used on all 1959 Dodge Kingsway models, with a "Deluxe" or "Custom" nameplate added below where needed.

Any questions as what fits what during your search, don't hesitate to ask here. Someone will be able to help.

Hi Bshopov, I sent you a pm. I should add a minor note to Chrycoman's interchangability list, the stainless 'eyebrows' above the headlights are different from the Plodges to the Custom Royals...the CR's are wider. Also I have seen proof that as beforementioned, It's not uncommon to see a '59 Regent with one-up Viscount-style side trim.
I'll be going to an auto wreckers this friday where there is a '59 Plodge. I'll take pics.

I was too late on getting pics or more parts off the 59 in the junkyard...sadly, it was crushed. I wanted to know what model it actually was; it had Regent emblems on it yet the car had lots of options and a very nice interior, V8 auto, fancier stainless, et cetera. I suspect it started life as a higher model. Wish I'd have taken pics of it the first time I was there!

Bogdan, it is a bummer that your Paint/Trim plate, on the firewall is corroded.

The factory probably has no build records still existing on your car.

What you might/should try to do is check up-behind your car's glovebox to see if the factory's Broadcast Sheet might
still be masking-taped there.

Also, depending upon your car's floor covering's present condition, you might try removing the car's front seat and carefully
check under the floor covering, and/or on top of the floor pan, itself, to see if another Broadcast Sheet might have been folded-up
and thrown down onto the floor pan, right before the floor covering was installed, on the assembly line.

You might even check under the front & rear seats to see if there is any factory 'literature' folded up, under there, too.

Doesn't hurt to look there, and you might be pleasantly surprised with what you may find hidden in those areas!

Do you have photo of the dashboard of your Kingsway, why your Kingsway is with short trim on the front fender
So, I find difference in the back side on the car in my car was a trim on trunk
I see that your car is without this trim
Can you explain for me this difference

That 59 Kingsway looks like it's got 1958 Custom Royal upholstery in it; that's good durable material.
