New User Posts: 4 | Bought a local farm truck, I am third owner. Looks rough, but it is complete to the ignition key. some rust through in the bottom of doors and in the floor pan, not too serious. Must have had a hard hit to the front bumper, slight body distortion up front. Probably farm kids driving with no brakes. Motor has a tough time turning over, will remove and strip it down this fall. Forward Looking to working on this motor! (P1260822 smr.JPG) (P1270004 smr.JPG) Attachments ---------------- P1260822 smr.JPG (198KB - 252 downloads) P1270004 smr.JPG (177KB - 248 downloads)

Expert Posts: 2196 Location: Muskego, WI | Can't wait to see more! I have been helping a friend on and off for years on his 1955 Dodge. His has a flat head 6 with a 4 speed, but we're gearing up to put a 241 Hemi into it. We've adapted a late 1970s 4 speed overdrive to the original truck bell housing, should really make the truck much easier and more fun to drive. If you have questions or even need parts, we may be able to help.

New User Posts: 4 | Thanks Jon! Got any 'go fast' parts for a 56 270? i am shopping for a 4bbl manifold that would fit the low deck 270 poly. Charlie

Expert Posts: 2196 Location: Muskego, WI | We don't have any speed parts, but we did adapt a A833 4 speed behind the 241. I have the CAD model and drawing for the adapter somewhere if you'd like it (there is a link to my mini thread on the engine below). http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=65843&... Also, don't be so fast to jump to a 4 barrel carb as most will be too large for your engine's CID and RPM range. Unless to plan to spin that old hemi up to 7500 RPM, you only need about 350 CFM (based on 270 CID and 5000 RPM).

New User Posts: 4 | Hi all, Been a while since I have written, so it’s time for an update. My son and I pulled the 270 and I took it home to see what surprises were in store. I had previously tried to start the motor in the truck. I retired the ignition system, replacing vital parts. The motor turned unevenly and the starter was really straining and there was no spark. With the motor in the garage I pulled the tranny exposing the large mouse mansion in the bell housing. Nice! The process of working on the engine is the greasiest, messiest endeavor I have ever worked on. Lots of dirty clothes!
