The metal for most body work is 20-26 gauge. Spend the extra money and
by a MIG that uses shielding gas not fluxcore wire. Running solid wire and
Argomix gas[75%Argon 25%CO2] gives a much cleaner weld. Straight CO2
spatters a little more and you can get carbon imbrittlement in the weld,
that is only a concern on unibody cars or frame welding. CO2 is cheaper
than
the mix. CO2 and the mix regulators do not interchange, so if you do not
want to buy both like I did, best make up your mind in the beginning.
Solid
wire is much cheaper than fluxcore. Fluxcore can also give you slag
inclusion in the weld, latter the slag pops out and ruins your job. The
only
advantage to flux core is if you weld in a bad draft you do not have to
worry about the shielding gas blowing away. Also be sure the welder has a
solenoid valve to control the gas.
      Did I confuse everybody?
