Water Discovered In Vault Holding Buried Car
KOTV - 6/13/2007 11:13 AM - Updated 6/13/2007 12:26 PM

Organizers get a sneak peek at Tulsa's buried Belvedere, and don't like
what they see. Crews pried the lid off the 1957 Plymouth's vault on
Wednesday and found several feet of standing water. The News On 6's
Joshua Brakhage reports this buried treasure is now a sunken treasure.

People compared the standing water inside the vault to chocolate milk.
They say it must have seeped in through the bottom of the vault.

Now the Public Works Department is pumping the water out of the vault.
They are worried that water could be toxic, so the Fire Department's
Hazmat team was called to the scene, and the Police Department and
Sheriff's Office have put up crime scene tape around the site. Many say
it would be a crime to see the Belvedere destroyed after all this
anticipation.

Organizers say this just creates that much more mystery around the car's
unveiling. News On 6 anchor Terry Hood hosts our live special Friday
evening at 7 o'clock. The unveiling can also be seen live, streaming on
the internet at kotv.com.

On The News On 6 at 5 Terry Hood tells us the vault isn't the only thing
standing between the Belvedere and the elements. What layers of
protection organizers are still counting on to save this celebration is
tonight at 5 p.m. on The News On 6.
