IML: Classic Car Insurance

Hi Patrick -

I've got my '66 Imperial on a regular insurance policy and the rates are 
very low.  I also had my other, formerly inoperative classic sports car on 
the same policy, for comprehensive coverage (fire, theft, etc.) for more 
than 25 years and it cost less than $20 annually.  On that same car, I also 
carried another "stated value" policy which I think was about $10/per 
$1,000 of value, just in case something catastrophic happened.  Nothing 
ever did, but neither company would continue coverage when I shipped that 
car to New Zealand, so I now have a policy with a NZ company for a declared 
value, which allows ordinary driving.

I think it's a good idea to carry comprehensive insurance, just like you 
would insure other personal possessions.

Am I right in assuming that classic car insurers all require the cars to be
garaged?  I bought "regular" coverage on my latest procurement
(non-imperial/classic Buick) because I do not yet have a garage for it.  I
only got one quote, however, and then just called my regular insurance
company and added the car to my existing daily driver policy.  Now I'm
feeling stupid (a familiar place)wondering if I should have shopped around.
I need an insurer that will be compatible with my umrella policy
requirements, etc.

My Imperial is stored in the garage, and I can't squeeze the Buick in there.
The Imperial isn't on the road yet, so I don't insure it.  (Required
Imperial content)
