Putting the centers on should not make them out of balance. the mount is removed to balance the wheel.  Only guess I would have is if you have caps and mounts from a 90 IMP. They are different as the 90 had alloy wheels.  But if the 3 holes line up on the mounts you have they are most likely the correct year.

I finally got around to putting the hubcap and center on my 93 and got a terrible shake going down the highway.  Took the center hub off the rim and put the 'walmart' special back on and it's fine.

I feel dumb asking this but, will that center throw the wheel/tire off balance?
