Re: IML: Question on 61 Shift Cable Removal

I've done it on a 60, (same thing). If you have enough patience, you'll eventually get it to come out. Don't yank hard on the cable while trying to release it. Press with the screwdriver & gently try pulling it out.

Subject: IML: Question on 61 Shift Cable Removal

This weekend was a car weekend.  Ahhhh.   Lots of good progress.  On the other hand, I tried to remove the shift cable from one of the 61 parts cars (cast-iron 727).  The illustration in the manual is not exactly the same as the real thing, and the explanation is really sketchy.  It seems there is a spring that retains the cable end, which must be somehow blindly pushed by a screwdriver via the hole where the neutral safety switch normally resides.  Ahem.  I have tried several size screwdrivers and many different blind pokes, but so far, no luck.  Has anyone successfully done this with the tranny in place?  Any magic tricks?

thanks,
jc
