IML: brake and axel question

i recently had a nasty happen to my 66 crown. the brake adjuster cable in the right rear failed and caused the rear brake to hang up. by the time i got home, i was pouring smoke from the brake and the engine was boiling over.
i found the cable when i pulled everything apart today. the adjuster rachet stop was bent 90 degress and broke when i bent it back. i am sure that the axel bearing has also been compromised. my question is this, as this is a new wrinkle for me: can i go to a napa store for the brake parts or must i now start a long search? and (2) what am i up against when it comes to changing out the wheel bearings? is it somethng i should tackle or should a shop do this?
